Move with Confidence

21/08/2026 by altphysio

When people hear the word core, they often think about exercise or trying to achieve a flatter stomach. As physiotherapists, we think about all the everyday movements that rely on a strong core without most people ever realising it.

Your core is working every time you lift a suitcase into the boot of the car, place hand luggage into an overhead locker, carry beach bags across the sand or bend down to help children build sandcastles. These muscles provide the stability that supports your spine, improves your balance and helps your body move efficiently.

When your core is strong, everyday tasks feel easier. When it’s weak, your back is often the first place to let you know.

As you’ll see from Laura’s beach workout photos, staying active during the summer doesn’t have to involve a gym. A resistance band and a little space are often all you need.

The second video in our Summer Strength Series focuses on strengthening your core using a resistance band. It’s a simple way to improve the muscles that support almost everything you do, whether you’re preparing for your holiday or keeping active while you’re away.

A stronger core could make all the difference to how comfortable you feel throughout the summer.
