14–20 September is Rehabilitation Awareness Week.
This gives us an opportunity to highlight the difference rehabilitation can make to people’s lives.
When we talk about rehabilitation, it can sound quite clinical. In reality, it’s often about something much more personal.
It might be getting back on the golf course after an injury, walking the dog without worrying about pain, returning to work after surgery, feeling stronger on the stairs or having the confidence to play with the grandchildren again.
At Altrincham Physiotherapy, those everyday goals are a really important part of rehabilitation.
Rehab Isn’t Just About Recovery
Physiotherapy can help with pain and injury, but rehabilitation goes further than simply treating the problem that brought you through the door.
It’s about rebuilding movement, strength and confidence, helping you manage symptoms and gradually working towards the activities that matter to you.
And the benefits can be significant. Research commissioned by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has found that physiotherapy delivers measurable benefits for patients, the health service and wider society, including helping people remain active and independent.
Whatever your starting point, rehabilitation should be built around your goals and what you want to be able to do again.
Lyndsey’s Rehabilitation Journey
After undergoing four major operations, each recovery brought its own challenges. There were exercises to work through, walking aids to progress beyond and times when getting back to everyday life felt a long way off.
With rehabilitation and support from Altrincham Physiotherapy, Lyndsey has been able to keep moving forward.
In our short interview, she talks about the progress she has made and how, after everything she has been through, she can now “see the future coming back again.”
That’s what rehabilitation can ultimately be about. Not simply recovering from an operation or injury, but gradually rebuilding your strength, independence and confidence in what comes next.
What Would You Like to Get Back To?
Sometimes pain or injury changes what we do gradually. Walks become shorter, we stop doing certain exercises, avoid particular movements or simply accept that something we used to enjoy is no longer comfortable.
It doesn’t necessarily have to stay that way.
Whether you’re recovering from an injury or operation, struggling with an ongoing musculoskeletal problem or finding that pain is limiting your everyday life, our physiotherapists can assess what’s happening and help you find a realistic way forward.
If there’s something you’d love to get back to doing, get in touch with the Altrincham Physiotherapy team and let’s see how we can help.
