Summer holidays often involve far more walking than we realise. From making your way through the airport to exploring new towns, wandering around local markets, climbing steps to take in the view or enjoying long walks along the beach, your legs work much harder than they would during an average week at home.
It’s only when your legs begin to tire, or your knees and hips start to ache, that you appreciate just how important strength is to making the most of your holiday.
Keeping your leg muscles strong isn’t about spending hours in the gym. It’s about helping your body cope with the activities you enjoy most, so you can walk further, climb stairs with confidence, protect your knees and hips, and feel stronger throughout your holiday.
One of the easiest ways to maintain your strength while you’re away is with a resistance band. It takes up very little space in your suitcase and allows you to exercise almost anywhere, whether that’s in your hotel room, your garden before you leave or, as Laura demonstrates in this month’s photos, even on the beach.

To help you stay active this summer, we’ve created a free Resistance Band Leg Workout, which you can watch below. It’s suitable for most abilities and is designed to help you build strength that supports everyday life.
We hope it helps you enjoy every adventure that summer has to offer.
